Crossing collision injures one in Pa.

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - Pennsylvania State Police said at least one person was injured in a possible collision between a train and a car Sunday night.

"We don't even know if the train was involved at this point," said Steve O'Donnell, chief of the West End Volunteer Fire Co. in Shippensburg. He said there was one person known injured and the accident involved a sport utility vehicle.

The accident happened at 10:25 p.m. at a railroad crossing on Mount Rock Road in Southampton Township, according to police. The injured person was believed to have been ejected from the vehicle, O'Donnell said.

A Lifelion helicopter was called in to take a patient from Chambersburg, Pa., Hospital to either Hershey Medical Center or York Hospital. A Cumberland Valley Hose Co. ambulance took the victim to Chambersburg.

O'Donnell said the crossing is marked and has a stop sign.

State police and ambulance personnel were still on the scene of the accident as of late Sunday night.
