The Joneses

Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Jones of Williamsport celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, at the Salvation Army Annex.

The celebration was hosted by their sons and their spouses, Dale and Shannon Jones of Boonsboro, Steve and Gail Jones of Greenville, S.C., and Richard and Kathy Jones of Martinsburg, W.Va., and by their nephew and his wife, Lacey and Barbara Simmons of Smithsburg.

The Joneses were married Nov. 1, 1947, in Kentucky.

Mrs. Jones is the former Goldie Arvella Bergdoll, daughter of the late Hattie and George Bergdoll. She retired from Caldwell Manufacturing Co. in Williamsport.

Mr. Jones is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Jones Sr. He is retired from Wilderness Trailers in Williamsport.

They have 6 grandchildren.

The Shanks

Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Shank celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Sept. 13, 1997, at Hooked on Kountry Ranch.

The celebration, in which the Shanks renewed their wedding vows, was hosted by their six children and their spouses and the couple's grandchildren. About 70 friends and relatives attended.

The Shanks were married Sept. 26, 1947, at Rose Hill Church of God by the Rev. George A. Harne.

Mrs. Shank is the former Delores E. Deeds, daughter of the late Abraham and Alice Troxell Deeds and foster daughter of the late Leon and Mildred Hutzell Harbaugh.

Mr. Shank retired from Longmeadow Motors and had previously worked for Ken Byrds Auto Exchange for 36 years.

They have nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The Barretts

Edward and Helen Barrett of Hagerstown were honored for their 50th wedding anniversary with a week at a resort in Wisconsin by four of their sons and daughters-in-law, Bruce and Maureen Barrett, Mark and Mary Barrett, Paul and Dawn Barrett and Todd and Nancy Barrett, and by their four grandchildren. Another son, Peter Barrett, was living in Japan at the time.

Upon returning to Hagerstown, the couple renewed their vows at Saint Joseph Church in Halfway.

The Barretts were married Aug. 2, 1947, at St. Bartholomew Church in Chicago.

Mrs. Barrett is the former Helen Sosdian, daughter of the late Matthew and Anna Sosdian.

Mr. Barrett is the son of the late Edward and Ellen Barrett. He is retired from Rustoleum in Williamsport.

The DeGranges

Mr. and Mrs. Richard DeGrange of Hagerstown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at the Fireside Inn Friday, Oct. 3, 1997, and at Chef's Kitchen Banquet Room Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997. Family and friends attended.

The DeGranges were married Oct. 3, 1947, at Washington Street Baptist Church in Hagerstown by the Rev. Paul Wattington.

Their children are Nelson Eichelberger, Christy Worthington, Teresa Fitz, Robert DeGrange, Richard DeGrange and the late Joseph L. DeGrange Sr.

Mrs. DeGrange is the former Virginia Lantz. She retired in 1990 from Washington County Board of Education as a school bus driver with 23 years of service. She is a homemaker.

Mr. DeGrange retired from Western Maryland Railway as a bookkeeper with 26 years of service. He also retired as manager for the Woodcraft Shop at Fort Ritchie.

They have 23 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

The Moatzes

Lorraine and Melvin Moatz of Pen Mar celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, Oct. 26, 1997, at the home of their grandson and his wife, Allen Harmon Jr. and Peggy Harmon.

The celebration was hosted by the couple's children, Melvina Harmon of Hagerstown, Gregory Moatz of Waynesboro, Pa., Darlene Kipe of Hagerstown, Gordon Moatz Sr. of Highfield, Stephen Moatz of Waynesboro, Krista Haugh of Hagerstown and Karla Rowe of Funkstown and their spouses. The Moatzes also have a daughter in Texas, Pamela Lawson, who was unable to attend.

The Moatzes were married Oct. 26, 1947, at St. Ann's Church in Smithsburg by the Rev. F.R. Trevor.

Mrs. Moatz is the former Lorraine Bricker.

Mr. Moatz worked for Mack Trucks.

They have 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

The Pryors

Ralph and Lucille Pryor of Chewsville celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Sunday, Aug. 17, 1997, at Four Points Sheraton Inn in Hagerstown.

The celebration was hosted by their daughter and son-in-law Judy and Gerald Anders of Smithsburg, their son Ronald Pryor and his fiancee, Paula Witman of York, Pa., and their son and daughter-in-law William and Diane Pryor of Greencastle, Pa.

The Pryors were married Aug. 8, 1947, at the parsonage of Methodist Church of Smithsburg by the Rev. G.M. Shriner.

Mrs. Pryor is the former Lucille Flory, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Guy L. Flory of Shady Grove, Pa. She is a homemaker.

Mr. Pryor is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Russell S. Pryor of Smithsburg. He is a retired plumbing contractor.

They have 7 grandchildren.

The Smiths

George and Delores Smith of Boonsboro celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, Sept. 6, 1997 at their home.

The celebration was hosted by their children and spouses, Candy and David Barnhart and Brian and Valerie Smith.
