Teen trapped under mobile home

MARLOWE, W.Va. - A 15-year-old was trapped under a mobile home Tuesday in the Sportsman's Paradise housing development when a jack slipped, causing it to fall on top of him and pin his legs, according to rescue officials.

The unidentified teen was taken to Washington County Hospital with a broken leg and a dislocated shoulder and hypothermia was just setting in, said Rescue Deputy Chief Gary Harmison of the Bedington, W.Va., Fire Department.

Rescue teams from three companies worked almost two hours to free the teen who became trapped around 4:39 p.m. as he was helping set up the trailer using two small jacks, Harmison said.

When firefighters arrived on the scene at Broad Lane, the teen was conscious and communicated with them throughout the rescue, he said.

Only his arm was showing from beneath the mobile home and emergency medical technicians started an intravenous line, Harmison said.

Rescue workers first stabilized the mobile home, then placed two inflatable air bags on each side to lift it, Harmison said.

Rescue teams from South Berkeley, Bedington and Williamsport responded to the scene.
