Man charged with forgery, mischief

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Chambersburg man was charged with forgery and theft by deception Monday afternoon after two checks from a closed account were passed at two downtown jewelry stores, according to Chambersburg Police.

Frederick Goeins, 30, of Wisteria Drive, was charged with purchasing a diamond tennis bracelet at Gartenberg Jewelry, 133 S. Main St., at 3:42 p.m. using a check from a closed account and signing another name, police said.

At 4:16 p.m., an attempt was made to pass another check at Ludwig's Jewelers Inc., 121 S. Main St., police said.


While being placed under arrest, he attempted to flee the scene, police said. With the help of two bystanders, he was caught and taken into custody, police said.

During the arrest, the front passenger door of a vehicle parked on the street was damaged, police said.

A pipe fashioned for smoking crack cocaine was also found in his possession, police said.

Goeins was charged with forgery, resisting arrest, criminal mischief and possession of drug paraphernalia in connection with that incident, police said.

Motorist flees after high-speed chase

CLEAR SPRING - A motorist led police on a high-speed chase before bailing out of his vehicle and running through a field Tuesday night, Maryland State Police said.

The chase began at Md. 40 and Interstate 70 shortly before 11 p.m., police said. Authorities were searching in the area of the Hagerstown Speedway at press time.

Washington County sheriff's deputies joined in the pursuit, police said.

Maryland State Police Cpl. K. Scheer said the chase began after the motorist failed to stop when police tried to pull the car over for a traffic violation.

No further details were available at press time.

Pa. man charged in assault on wife

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Chambersburg man was arrested Sunday morning after his wife was struck numerous times, according to Chambersburg City Police.

Steven R. Oller, 26, of 1024 Warm Spring Road, Lot 71, was charged with simple assault under the domestic violence act in the 10:45 a.m. incident, police said.

Oller and his wife, Kimberly A. Oller, 22, of the same address, engaged in a verbal argument, police said. A physical confrontation followed, police said.

Steven Oller was arraigned before District Justice John Weyman and placed in Franklin County Prison on $5,000 bail, police said.

Frederick girl struck by car

A Frederick, Md., girl was struck Tuesday by a vehicle as she darted into the road between two parked cars, Hagerstown City Police said.

The girl, whom police identified as Vessica Nichole Keefer, 12, was treated at Washington County Hospital and released.

According to police, the girl ran between parked cars in the 800 block of West Washington Street shortly after 3 p.m. and collided with the side of a 1993 Isuzu Rodeo, which was driven by Jeffrey Lee Hetzer, 26, of Jefferson Boulevard in Hagerstown.

Woman injured when car flips

A Maugansville woman was sent to the hospital Tuesday after her vehicle flipped on its roof during a traffic accident at the intersection of North Avenue and Mulberry Street, Hagerstown City Police said.

Teresa Marie Rippeon, 35, was extricated from her 1994 Dodge Shadow and taken to Washington County Hospital, where she was treated and released, officials said.

According to police, a 1996 Chevrolet Cavalier heading south on Mulberry Street at about 2 p.m. collided with the Shadow, which was traveling west on North Avenue. The vehicle struck the curb and then overturned, police said.

The driver of the Cavalier, Christine Marie Caldwell, 24, of Potomac Avenue in Hagerstown, was charged with a red light violation, police said.

Woman hurt in two-car accident

FREDERICK, Md. - A Union Bridge, Md., woman was taken to the hospital Tuesday after the car she was riding in collided with another vehicle, Maryland State Police said.

Dorothy E. Llewellyn, 75, was treated at Frederick Memorial Hospital and released.

According to police, a 1997 Dodge Caravan was stopped on Md. 550 at Md. 194 at about 5:45 p.m. The vehicle, driven by Fuller W. Brazer, 59, of College Station, Texas, pulled out and struck a 1992 Ford Taurus that was heading north on Md. 194, police said.

The driver of the Taurus, Joann Spiker, 51, of Frederick, was charged with failure to yield right of way.
