W.Va. man charged with DWI, fleeing

WILLIAMSPORT - A Falling Waters, W.Va., man was charged after a six-mile chase that approached speeds of 100 mph on Interstate 81 Saturday night, authorities said.

Dennis Preston Householder, 45, of 808 Robin Lane, was charged with DWI, driving on a revoked license, fleeing and eluding and other minor traffic offenses, police said. He was being held Sunday night on $15,000 bond at the Washington County Detention Center.

State troopers attempted to stop a 1990 Nissan pickup truck for traffic violations just before 9 p.m. when the vehicle took off, Maryland State Police said. The vehicle turned down an alley and stopped behind Peck's Tavern at Leaf and Redman alleys, police said.


The driver surrendered after all avenues of escape were blocked, police said.

The driverless pickup truck then rolled down an alley and struck an empty, parked Washington County Sheriff's Department cruiser, causing minor front-end damage. Sgt. Mark Knight of the sheriff's department said deputies in the area assisted in the pursuit.

Householder was arrested without incident after the chase, police said.

Youth charged with drug possession

A minor was arrested on a felony drug distribution charge after police found more than two ounces of marijuana in his home on Sunday morning, according to the Hagerstown Police Department.

Police discovered the drugs during an assault investigation on the first block of Belview Avenue at about 10 a.m., police said.

Officers smelled burnt marijuana coming out of a house and approached the occupants about it, police said.

The male, whose name and age were withheld by police, was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute CDS and possession of CDS paraphernalia, police said.

The case was being referred to juvenile justice officers, police said.

Man faces charges in club beating

FREDERICK, Md. - A Frederick man was arrested early Sunday after a man was struck with a wooden club during an argument on Sagner Drive, according to the Frederick Police Department.

Robert Eugene Bowens, 43, address unavailable, was struck in the head with a 25-inch wooden club, police said.

He was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released, police said.

William A. Ferguson, 44, of the 200 block of Maple Avenue, was charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment, police said. He was being held at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center on $30,000 Sunday night.

Shooting victim in serious condition

A Hagerstown man who was shot early Friday morning was in serious condition at Washington County Hospital Sunday night, according to hospital officials.

Andre Lashawn Morgan, of Garden Lane, was found shot at 2:16 a.m. in the 300 block of Jonathan Street, according to Hagerstown City Police. Police charged Robert Clipper, 25, of 202 N. Potomac St. with attempted murder. He remains jailed without bond at the Washington County Detention Center.

Police released no new information about the investigation on Sunday.

Morgan and another man got into a fight, according to information witnesses provided to police. The other man left and later returned with a firearm and began shooting at Morgan, police said.
