Bowers appointed to board of directors

The Washington County Commissioners on Tuesday appointed Commissioner Ronald L. Bowers to fill a vacancy on the Pen Mar Development Corp.'s board of directors.

In making the appointment, the commissioners reversed their decision earlier this year not to appoint Bowers to the board.

Assisted-living center OK'd

The Hagerstown Board of Zoning Appeals gave the go-ahead Wednesday night for a proposed assisted-living center on Professional Court off Eastern Boulevard.

Balanced Care Corp. needed a special exemption for its project because it is to be located in a C-2 commercial district, said Matt Davis, a planner for the zoning board.

Balanced Care, however, did not get a variance from the city parking requirement that requires the firm to build a 120-space parking lot, Davis said. The company wanted to build a 50-space lot.

Balanced Care officials, who are planning a $5 million facility, could not be reached for comment.
