Mouse's Deli robbery under investigation

December 19, 1997

Hagerstown City Police officers are investigating the armed robbery of a city grocery store Friday morning.

A man entered Mouse's Deli and Grocery at 640 George St. and demanded money, said store manager Gloria Murray.

Murray said she first refused, but then handed over $150 after she noticed he was holding a handgun.

"I can't run faster than a bullet can go," said Murray.

She said she would not have given the man the money had he not been carrying a weapon.

"We would have had a knock-down, drag-out fight," said a shaken Murray, whose store was robbed about three years ago.

The man, who was wearing a black mask, then ran out of the store, said Murray.
