County will save on insurance bill
Washington County will save about $55,000 next year on insurance it pays for the Washington County Fire and Rescue Association.
The insurance bid dropped from $322,816 this calendar year to $268,284 next year.
The contract was awarded to Selective Insurance Co.
Human Resources Director Alan Davis praised county insurance coordinator Annajean Bitner for her work in reducing insurance costs for the county.
Bitner said the savings resulted in part from fewer worker's compensation and other claims made by county fire companies.
County Administrator Rodney Shoop praised the fire and rescue association's safety programs for reducing the number of claims. He said the programs pay dividends not only in lower insurance costs but in fewer injuries to firefighters.
