Man flees police, charged with DUI

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - A Mercersburg man was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with driving under the influence after he led Pennsylvania State Police troopers on a one-mile chase, police said.

Jeffery Zeigler, unknown age and address, tried to elude state police after they attempted to stop him on Hawbaker Road in Peters Township at 2:30 a.m. for having a taillight out on the Ford pickup truck he was driving, police said.

Police chased Zeigler for about a mile before he stopped, police said.

The truck's owner, Todd Beatty, unknown age, of Mercersburg, was a passenger in the truck, police said.

State police found drug paraphernalia and several bottles of alcohol in the passenger compartment of the truck, police said.

Zeigler was taken to Chambersburg Hospital for a blood alcohol test, which came back .18 percent, police said. The legal limit in Pennsylvania is .10 percent.

Pa. man charged with contempt

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Chambersburg man was arrested Sunday afternoon after violating a court protection from abuse order, according to Chambersburg Police.

Alvino Long, unknown age, of 19 Lincoln Way West, was charged with one count of indirect criminal contempt, two counts of simple assault, and one count of resisting arrest after a domestic dispute at 4:09 p.m. involving Barbara Long and Anna McKenrick, both of 19 Lincoln Way West, police said.

Christmas gifts stolen from car

A Christmas Grinch stole $2,800 worth of gifts overnight from the trunk of a car parked in front of 20325 Youngstoun Court, Apt. 2708, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

The suspect or suspects got to the gifts by opening the passenger side door of the white Plymouth Sundance, which apparently had a faulty lock, police said. The gifts were stolen before 5:30 a.m. Monday, police said.

The gifts, which belonged to Deanna Fay Horan, 22, were being stored for the night in the trunk, police said.

W.Va. robbery under investigation

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - City police are investigating a robbery that took place Sunday night at the intersection of Liberty and Queen streets.

According to the report, Ronald Robinson, 41, of 240 E. Martin St., was robbed of $15 by two black males at about 11:07 p.m.

The report said two black males jumped from the back of a silver two-door car and began beating him. They went through his pockets, took the money and left in the car.

Robinson was treated at City Hospital in Martinsburg for lacerations to the back of his head.

Detective Kevin Miller said no arrests had been made in the case as of Monday afternoon.

W.Va. girl claims she was shot at

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - The Berkeley County Sheriff's Department is investigating a girl's claim that someone took a shot at her Sunday afternoon near her home.

The unnamed teenager was walking along Providence Church Road when someone known to her allegedly fired in her direction with a .22-caliber rifle. She was not hurt, according to Capt. Curtis Keller.

Keller said the girl told the investigating deputy that the shot was fired from a field adjacent to a wooded area. The incident was reported at 1:11 p.m.

No charges had been filed as of Monday afternoon and Keller said the incident is still under investigation.

Hagerstown man charged in robbery

A Hagerstown man who was charged with robbery Sunday night remained jailed Monday night, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

Gregory Allen Hawks Sr., 38, of 527 S. Potomac St., was charged with armed robbery, first-degree assault, first-degree burglary, misdemeanor theft and malicious destruction of property, police said.

Someone was robbed earlier in the weekend by someone wielding a butcher knife, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

The robber forced a window open, breaking the lock, at a home on Sand Wedge Drive southwest of Hagerstown around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, police said.

All of the victim's cash, $180, was stolen and a butcher knife was displayed, police said.

Hawks was arrested shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday when Hagerstown City Police patrol officer Tammy Miller spotted him as a passenger in a vehicle, police said.

Hawks was being held in lieu of $100,000 bond Monday night at the Washington County Detention Center, police said.

Cascade man charged with assault

CASCADE - A Cascade man was charged with assault Monday, the Washington County Sheriff's Department said.

Johnnie Lee McLemore, 44, of 25505 Brooks Ave., was charged with second-degree assault, deputies said.

The victim, Maryam Dena Wilson, 40, of Washington, D.C., was choked and hit in the head. She was injured but did not require medical attention, deputies said. Authorities classified the incident as a domestic dispute.

McLemore was arrested at about 1:15 p.m., deputies said. He was being held Monday night at the Washington County Detention Center on $4,500 bond.

Frederick woman charged with assault
