Columbia Gas customers get a break
Nearly 700 Columbia Gas customers in Washington County will see a break on their monthly gas bills, Columbia Gas of Maryland announced Friday.
Columbia no longer has to collect 5-percent state sales tax from residential customers who choose their own natural gas supplier.
The tax savings applies to 2,500 customers statewide, including 692 in Washington County.
Things will nto change for the company's 30,000 other residential customers. The gas company had never collected the tax from them.
The Maryland Comptroller of the Treasury made the ruling last week, Columbia announced Friday.
Columbia began collecting the tax in June from choice customers who participated last winter in the first year of the supplier-choice program
