Morgan fire destroys home

HEDGESVILLE, W.Va. - A blaze destroyed a home Wednesday morning in Fox Hollow off W.Va. 9 in Morgan County near the Berkeley County border, fire officials said.

No one was injured in the blaze, fire officials said.

Kimberly Masters and her baby were outside the burning house when firefighters arrived, fire officials said.

The cause of the blaze was undetermined, fire officials said. The house was heated with a wood stove, but it had not been determined Wednesday whether that played a role in starting the blaze, officials said.

The blaze was reported about 9:36 a.m. Wednesday. Firefighters from Hedgesville responded within a minute after the call, but when they arrived at 9:47 a.m., the house was engulfed in flames, said Hedgesville Fire Police Capt. Randy Kenney.

The wood frame house collapsed into the concrete block basement, Kenney said.

The house was a total loss, said Berkeley Springs Fire Chief Steve McBee.

Damage estimates ranged from $14,000 to $20,000.

The house was rented to Masters and owned by Guy Fox, officials said.

Firefighters remained on the scene until 11:55 a.m. Wednesday.

Fox said he's owned the house for about 12 years. He said he rented the house to Masters about a month ago.

"It wasn't a bad little house and I rented it to them as is," Hess said.
