Western Maryland Hospital Center site of VA clinic

It's definite. The Veterans Affairs Medical Center will open an outpatient clinic at the Western Maryland Hospital Center, an official said Wednesday.

Doris Griffin, a spokeswoman for the VA center east of Martinsburg, W.Va., said the clinic will be on the third floor of the hospital on Pennsylvania Avenue in Hagerstown.

Previously, officials had targeted the clinic for Hagerstown but had not chosen a definite site.

"It looks like it will be in the Western Maryland Hospital sometime in spring," she said.

Washington County veterans groups, which had pushed hard for a clinic centrally located in the Tri-State area, praised the decision.

Ray Linebaugh, president of the Joint Veterans Council of Washington County, said veterans who need routine medical treatment and services no longer will have to make a long trek down Interstate 81.

"We're ecstatic," he said. "Everything's just about good and done. We're very happy about it."
