Public transport meeting scheduled

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - State Rep. Jeffrey Coy, D-Franklin, is hosting a meeting with community leaders at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 17 in the community room at Shippen Place, King Street, Shippensburg, to discuss the possibility of bringing public transportation to Shippensburg.

Shepherd offers mail-in registration

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Area residents who would like to take classes at Shepherd College during the spring semester should contact the Office of Evening Services for registration-by-mail information.

Mail-in registration is available only to those community members who are not currently enrolled or seeking a degree at Shepherd and who are not registered for more than seven credit hours.

The deadline for registration is Friday, Jan. 2. Classes begin Wednesday, Jan. 14.

Literacy training course available

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Franklin County Literacy Council is offering its basic literacy tutor training course beginning Tuesday, Jan. 13 and continuing Jan. 15, 20, 22, 27 and 29. The course is taught from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the council office, 338 Lincoln Way East, Chambersburg.

The classes are for those wishing to volunteer to help other adults learn to read or help adults from other countries learn English. Those enrolling in the course must attend volunteer orientation prior to training.

Upcoming orientations are at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8 and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10.
