Armed robbery at South End Shopping Center

A white man wearing a blue ski mask and a dark coat robbed the Hair After Style Center at the South End Shopping Center at 1029 Maryland Ave. at gunpoint Saturday about 10 minutes after noon, Hagerstown Police said.

The man was reported to be about six feet tall with a medium build.

It was the second armed robbery reported in the past two days. Edward M. Barcus, 18, of Maugansville was robbed in an alley opposite the U.S. Post Office downtown of about $30 at about 10:25 Friday after a man brandished a knife, Hagerstown Police said.

Philip H. Meyer, 63, of Hagerstown was arrested and charged with the robbery and misdemeanor theft after being spotted by a sheriff's deputy stationed at the metal detector at Washington County Circuit Court.
