Thomas R. Hinkle

Thomas Randall "Randy" Hinkle, 42, of 844 Marshall St., Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 1997, at his home.

Born May 24, 1955, in Bremerton, Wash., he was the son of Shirley Bark Hinkle of Hagerstown and the late Russell Hinkle.

He was employed by John R. Oliver Construction Co. from 1973 to 1979. He was most recently employed by the city of Hagerstown, as a fire apparatus operator, since July 4, 1979. He and his wife also owned and operated Hinkle's Hub Cap Center.

He was a member of North American Rod and Gun Club; Antietam Fire Co., since May 1, 1974, where he was a member of the Standing Committee and was chairman of the carnival for three years; and a member of Carlisle Car Show for 16 years.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Barbara Miller Hinkle, whom he married Oct. 24, 1981; one daughter, Heather Nicole Hinkle, at home; one sister, Gayle Spoonhour of Williamsport; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown. The Rev. W. Carl Zinn will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

Visitation will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Washington County, 101 E. Baltimore St., Hagerstown, Md. 21740.

James H. Walker

HARRISBURG, Pa. - Funeral services for James H. "Sonny" Walker, 56, of Harrisburg, and formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., who died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at Harrisburg Hospital, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 615 W. Martin St., Martinsburg.

The Rev. Robert Craig will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday one hour prior to the services at the church.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg.

Gerald F. Santmier

COCOA, Fla. - Gerald F. Santmier, 64, of Cocoa, and formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Monday, Dec. 1, 1997, at Orlando (Fla.) Medical Center.

Born Jan. 27, 1933, in Berkeley County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Hollis R. Santmier and Ruth McCormick Santmier Leatherman.

He was a 1950 graduate of Martinsburg High School; and a 1955 graduate of Shepherd College.

He was a former band director at Hedgesville High School; and was employed by McDonald Douglas Aircraft.

He is survived by one daughter, Patricia Canfield of Martinsburg; one son, Richard F. Santmier of Hedgesville, W.Va.; one foster brother, William Santmier of Clearbrook, Va.; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, 327 W. King St., Martinsburg. The Rev. Douglas J. Hollida will officiate. Burial will be in Gerrardstown Presbyterian Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joseph V. Shoemaker

BALTIMORE - Joseph Vernon Shoemaker, 77, of 1174 Newfield Road, died Thursday, Nov. 13, 1997, at his home.

Born April 4, 1920, in Hancock, he was the son of the late George A. and Catherine Myers Shoemaker.

He retired from Western Maryland Railroad as an engineer.

He is survived by his wife, Anna C. Gripp Shoemaker; two sons, Edmund Shoemaker and R. Craig Shoemaker, both of Baltimore; one sister, Jean Griese of Baltimore; one brother, George Shoemaker of Baltimore; and one granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by one son, Richard Shoemaker; one sister, Dorothy Shoemaker; and one brother, Melvin Shoemaker.

Burial and services were private.

Memorial donations may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 929 Ingleside Ave., Baltimore, Md. 21228.

Funeral arrangements were by Sterling Ashton Funeral Home, Catonsville, Md.

Sonja A. Gates

MAUGANSVILLE - Sonja Aletta Gates, 56, of 13910 Green Mountain Drive, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown.

Born Oct. 2, 1941, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd A. and Carrie E. Bowers Davis Sr.

She was a past member of Smithsburg Fire Department Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald Gates; one son, Roy Barnhard Jr. of Maugansville; three sisters, Sarah LeDane of Smithsburg, Joan Durand and Mary Franklin, both of Hagerstown; one brother, Roger Davis of Camden, N.J.; and two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Rosalyn Dale, Dorothy Monninger and Juanita Jacobs; and six brothers, Hubert E. Davis, Robert Davis, Franklin Davis, Edward Davis, Edgar Davis, and Lloyd A. Davis Jr.

Funeral services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. Minister Bryan R. Bailey will officiate. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Helen M. Pike

WILLIAMSON, Pa. - Helen M. "Pud" Pike, 79, of 5436 Warm Spring Road, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997, at her home.
