Man killed in accident

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Berkeley County man died late Monday night of injuries he suffered earlier in the day in a one-vehicle accident on the Arden-Nollville Road.

Trooper D.M. Olack said the victim, a black male in his late 30s, died at 10:24 p.m. at Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va. He had been flown there following initial treatment at City Hospital in Martinsburg.

Olack said Monday night police were still trying to verify the man's identity, although his family had been notified. The trooper said the man used two different names and they had not been able to determine which was his real one.

The man was driving north when he lost control of the 1991 gray Isuzu Stylus four-door on a curve at about 2 p.m. The passenger side of the car struck a tree on the right side of the road, Olack said.

Olack said the man died of head injuries.

The man was not wearing a seat belt, Olack said. He said there was no evidence of drug or alcohol use in the accident.

While the man was married to a woman in the Gerrardstown, W.Va., area, Olack said he had apparently moved here recently from Mississippi.

He said the police will try and establish his true identity from fingerprints.
