Escape from juvenile facility shortlived

A 17-year-old Clear Spring boy escaped from the Juvenile Holdover Facility on Jonathan Street in Hagerstown Friday, but was caught 20 minutes later trying to steal a car, Maryland State Police said.

The boy, who was being held on a charge of vehicle theft, left through an open door at the facility about 4:40 p.m., said Trooper First Class Douglas Bird.

The door was open while evening meals were being brought in, Bird said.

Hagerstown City Police found the boy about 5 p.m., not far from the facility, trying to start someone's car, Bird said.
