Improvements planned for Hagerstown Colt League

November 28, 1997

The Hagerstown Colt League will be getting a new backstop, fencing and one light pole at Hellane Park, according to a loan agreement City Council members approved Tuesday.

Council members voted 4-1 to loan $18,150 to the league for five years at no interest.

Councilman William M. Breichner cast the sole dissenting vote.

Breichner said council members should consider funding these types of improvements for the league and similar groups.

His no vote concerned a previous decision by the council to pay to install lighting for lawn bowling facilities at Pangborn Park that are used mainly be senior citizens.

Councilman J. Wallace McClure said the lawn bowlers don't have revenue from concession sales, as does the colt league, to repay a loan.
