Godlove property purchase on hold

Hagerstown officials have put on hold plans to buy the Godlove property off Md. 491 because they're not sure they've been dealing with the legal property owner, a city official said Tuesday.

Council members were scheduled to vote Tuesday night on whether to introduce an ordinance to buy the 33.71 acres east of Smithsburg and north of Raven Rock Road, according to the city's preliminary agenda for the meeting.

The city was set to buy the land for $99,450, according to a copy of the contract of sale. The land would have been added to the city's watershed property.

City Attorney John Urner is determining whether Liberty Lobby Inc., of Washington, D.C., is the legal property owner, said Gene Walzl, manager of the city's water department.
