CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A preliminary hearing for the Fayetteville, Pa., man accused of shooting his girlfriend twice in their Mountain Shadow Terrace home in Greene Township has been postponed until January.

Victor H. Vaughn Jr., 43, of 1472 Mountain Shadow Terrace, was originally scheduled for the hearing on the criminal homicide charge Monday. It has been rescheduled for 10 a.m. Jan. 19 before District Justice Gary Carter.

Vaughn is being held in Franklin County Prison without bail.

Tonya Marie Caldwell, 29, was killed Nov. 19 inside the two-story home she shared with Vaughn, her mother, and two sons, ages 8 and 10.

Caldwell was shot twice with a handgun at about 6:30 p.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene by Franklin County Chief Deputy Coroner Jeffrey Conner, according to court records.

Neighbor Carol Fleagle, who checked on Caldwell after Vaughn had knocked on the door of her home and told her son what happened, said she found Caldwell lying on the floor in the kitchen with a gunshot wound to the head.

Vaughn told Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Jeremy Matas, one of the first to arrive at the scene, that he shot and killed his girlfriend inside the home, court records said.

He told state police investigators the same thing during an interview later that night at the police station, court records said.

Police said the homicide was a result of a domestic dispute.

No prior criminal record is on file under Vaughn's name in Franklin County Court.
