Possible food poisoning reported

November 24, 1997

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A case of possible food poisoning at the Martinsburg Mall Saturday night will be referred to the Berkeley County Health Department for further investigation, according to a nursing supervisor at City Hospital.

"There will be a follow-up through the health department," Mary Jane Redden said Sunday night of the incident. All four people taken to the hospital were treated and released, she said.

"We had some ill patients there, but we can't say if it was food poisoning or what," said paramedic Mark Murphy of Medic 98. He said their symptoms included nausea and vomiting.

"They all ate at the same place," Murphy said. He would not say where they had eaten.

The incident was called in at 9:30 p.m. The Martinsburg Fire Department had an ambulance at the mall on an unrelated call, so they called for mutual aid.
