Edith M. Werdebaugh

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Edith Mae Werdebaugh, 92, of Berkeley Springs, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997, at Valley View Nursing Home, Berkeley Springs.

Born Aug. 26, 1905, in Morgan County, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Edward Holland and Rose Ann Yost Spielman.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Prather Werdebaugh, in 1970.

For many years, she owned and operated Werdebaugh's Grocery Store and motel on U.S. 522 south, Berkeley Springs. She had been a homemaker since retirement.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Berkeley Springs.

She was a member of AARP.

She is survived by five daughters, Iva Lee Rolenson of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Frieda V. Albright and Georgia L. Schommer, both of Summerville, Fla., Betty J. Noble of Naples, Fla., and Sylvia A. Rowland of Chesapeake, Va.; one son, James E. Werdebaugh of Summerville; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, LeEsta E. Robertson and Louise E. Prevost; one son, Ralph T. Werdebaugh; two sisters, Agnes Vanorsdale and Metha Henry; and six brothers, Dustin Spielman, Dewey Spielman, Ardoff Spielman, Fonzie Spielman, Arlie Spielman and Alston Spielman.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 110 S. Green St., Berkeley Springs. Pastor Owen B. Womack will officiate. Burial will be in Greenway Cemetery, Berkeley Springs.

The family will receive friends at Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union St., Berkeley Springs, today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and at the church Tuesday one hour prior to the service. The funeral home will be open today from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the convenience of friends.

Memorial donations may be made to the building fund of First United Methodist Church, 110 S. Green St., Berkeley Springs, W.Va. 25411.

Bessie M. Romig

WELLS TANNERY, Pa. - Bessie M. Romig, 86, of Box 78, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997, at her daughter's home, 693 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg, Pa.

Born April 17, 1911, in Knobsville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Mary Tice Wagner.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. Romig, in 1978.

She was a housekeeper at Breeze Manor Motel in Breezewood, Pa., prior to retirement.

She was a member of Pine Grove United Methodist Church, Wells Tannery.

She attended Hopewell Senior Citizens and Wells Tannery Senior Citizens Group.

She is survived by one daughter, LuWanda Mumma of Chambersburg; one son, Ted Alton Romig of Port Matilda, Pa.; one sister, Mabel Wagner of Elizabethtown, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; and four step-great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, William Romig; two sisters, Mildred Wagner and Edna Wagner; one great-great-grandchild; and one step-great-grandson.

Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Pine Grove Methodist Church, Wells Tannery. The Rev. David Arnold and the Rev. George Clippinger will officiate. Burial will be in Roaring Run Cemetery, Wells Tannery.

The family will receive friends at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg, today from 7 to 9 p.m. and at the church Tuesday one hour prior to the service. The funeral home will be open today from 2 to 9 p.m.

Dorothy L.O. Swindall

HALLTOWN, W.Va. - Dorothy Lena Owens Swindall, 84, of Conestoga Estates, died Saturday, Nov. 22, 1997, at the residence of her daughter, Conestoga Estates.

Born June 11, 1913, in Dickenson County, Va., she was the daughter of the late William and Pheobe Davis Owens.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Swindall, in 1961.

She was a homemaker.

She was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by two daughters, Betty L. Matthews of Manassas, Va., and Joan S. "Jody" Hunter of Conestoga Estates; one sister, Gertrude VanDerpool of South Shore, Ky.; two brothers, Roy Owens and Guy Owens, both of Winchester, Va.; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Cora Tompkins and Ethel Owens; and two brothers, Holly Owens and Earl Owens.

Services will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Melvin T. Strider Colonial Funeral Home, Charles Town, W.Va. The Rev. Sandra Harshbarger will officiate. Burial will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Cemetery, Winchester.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m.

Jerry F. Bazzrea

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Jerry Franklin Bazzrea, 62, of Rural Retreat, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 1997, at Frederick Memorial Hospital, Frederick, Md.
