The Swopes

Ray F. and Elaine E. Swope celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Saturday, June 21, 1997, at North American Rod and Gun Club.

The celebration was hosted by their seven children and spouses, Terry and Diane Swope of Fairplay, Jennifer and Donnie Mason of Hagerstown, Jeff and Theresa Swope of Hagerstown, Paula and Mike Webb of Boonsboro, Brenda and Steve Gigeous of Williamsport, Helen and Brian Wiles of Hagerstown and Vicki Swope and family of Clear Spring.


The Swopes were married June 28, 1947, at the home of the late Rev. William A. Herpich.

Mrs. Swope is the former Elaine E. Giffin, daughter of the late Lewis and Maude Benner Giffin. She was employed by Laigon Manufacturers and E.J. Fennel. She works part time at Rehoboth Day Care Center.

Mr. Swope is the son of the late Franklin and Lottie Breeden Swope. He was employed by Central Chemical and Pangborn Corp. and farmed in Pinesburg, He is retired from Swopes Masonry.

They have 13 grandchildren.

The Ludwigs

Richard and Viola Ludwig of Lancaster, Pa., and formerly of Hagerstown, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Friday, Sept. 26, 1997, at Best Western Motel in Lancaster, Pa.

The celebration was hosted by their children, Karen Welk and Mark Ludwig of Lancaster, Pa., and Steve Ludwig of New Jersey. Another son, Robert Ludwig, died in 1973.

The Ludwigs were married Sept. 27, 1947, at Emmanuel United Brethren Church in Hagerstown by the Rev. Paul E. Holdcraft.

Mrs. Ludwig is the former Viola Eyler, daughter of Helen Eyler of Hagerstown and the late Reno Eyler. She retired in 1975 from Sears Roebuck Co. in Lancaster.

Mr. Ludwig is the son of the late William and Grace Ludwig. He is retired from Core State Bank in Williamsport, Pa.

They have four grandchildren.

The Spurriers

Kass and Ed Spurrier of Williamsport celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, Saturday, Sept. 20, 1997.

The open house was hosted by their three children and their spouses, Lynne and Terry Kirby of Myersville, Md., Vicki and Steve Spurrier of Williamsport and Anne and Tim Spurrier of Plano, Texas. The celebration was at the home of Vicki and Steve Spurrier.

The guest list included family and friends. Several members of the original wedding party attended.

The Spurriers were married at St. Edward's Church in Baltimore Sept. 20, 1947.

They have four grandchildren.

The Schroyers

Mr. and Mrs. Carl W. Schroyer of Greencastle, Pa., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner Saturday, Oct. 4, 1997, at The Orchards Restaurant in Chambersburg, Pa.

The dinner was hosted by their children, Carol Lowe of Smithsburg, Michael Schroyer of Greencastle, Beverly Schroyer and John Schroyer of Waynesboro, Pa., and Timothy Schroyer of Hagerstown.

The Schroyers were married Oct. 6, 1947, in Cumberland, Md.

Mrs. Schroyer is a homemaker.

Mr. Schroyer is a retired truck driver.

They have five grandchildren.
