Choir headed for White House

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - It won't be a state dinner for a visiting dignitary, but members of the Martinsburg High School chamber choir will be performing next month at the White House.

On Dec. 10, the 15-member choir will be performing a cappella for visitors at the White House as part of a holiday program to spice up public tours, according to Principal Richard Deuell.

Deuell said the choir will give two 45-minute performances beginning at 2 p.m. He said one would be in the Blue Room, but did not know yet where the second performance will be.

"We submitted tapes to the White House about a year ago" to be considered for a performance, Deuell said. The choir is only in its second year under director Linda Snyder, he added.

To help defray the cost of chartering a bus and treating the concert members to dinner that day, there will be a benefit concert at 7 p.m. Dec. 2 at the high school. Donations will be accepted.

Deuell said the group will perform many of the songs on the program for the White House concert.
