A Hagerstown man who was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds early Thursday was later charged with violating probation, Hagerstown City Police said.
Michael Williams, 20, was hit by a bullet in the upper left thigh while walking with a friend in the 100 block of South Burhans Boulevard near Elgin Park after 1 a.m., police said.
Williams was treated at Washington County Hospital and later taken to jail for allegedly violating probation on a cocaine possession charge, police said.
He was being held without bond at Washington County Detention Center Thursday, a detention center spokesman said.
Police were investigating the incident.
"It's kind of unusual and at this point we're just working on it," said Sgt. Rick Johnson.
