A Hagerstown man who was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds early Thursday later admitted he accidentally shot himself, Hagerstown City Police said Friday.

Michael Williams, 20, who was hit by a bullet in the upper left thigh, was treated and released from Washington County Hospital shortly after the 1 a.m. incident.

Williams first told police he was shot while walking with a friend in the 100 block of South Burhans Boulevard near Elgin Park, police said.
