Car stolen from Hagerstown home

A 1986 white Oldsmobile was stolen from outside a Hagerstown home late Monday or early Tuesday, Hagerstown City Police said.

The vehicle, which had Maryland tags ADL834, was taken in the 700 block of Guilford Avenue between 10 p.m. on Monday and 5 a.m. Tuesday, police said.

Driver injured in truck-train collision

BUCKEYSTOWN, Md. - A train crashed into a dump truck Tuesday afternoon, seriously injuring the driver and closing Md. 85 for nearly two hours, Maryland State Police said.

Leslie Sabine was flown to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was in serious condition Tuesday night.

According to police, the 1988 Peterbilt dump truck crossed over CSX train tracks at about 1:40 p.m. and was struck by two CSX engines heading south. Witnesses said the signal lights were flashing, police said. They said they do not know why the driver crossed the tracks.

The operator of the train, Cleo Bethea, 59, was not hurt, police said.

Police seek help in identification

Maryland State Police are asking for help in identifying a woman whose body was found last year near Interstate 70 in Howard County, Md.

An autopsy has revealed that the woman had a surgical intervention for a rare congenital defect known as Arnold-Chiari malformation, police said.

She was white, 5 feet 3 to 5 feet 5 inches tall, 130 pounds and had a pierced right ear. She also had extensive dental work, police said.

Police believe the victim, who was found Aug. 27, 1996, had been dead one to two months. She was wearing Levi jeans, a man's Jockey T-shirt and no shoes.
