A 40-year-old Hagerstown man was charged Saturday with the Thursday robbery of the Hagerstown Trust Co. branch bank at West Side Avenue and Franklin Street, said Hagerstown Police.

Arrested was Mervin Edward Brown of 149 N. Potomac St., Room 426, city police said.

Police said Brown was brought to police headquarters Saturday for questioning based information received from other sources and photographs obtained from the bank during the robbery, which occurred about 9:21 a.m. Thursday morning.

A 35mm picture from the bank security camera showed the suspect leaving the building dressed in light clothing and a baseball cap.

Police said the robber handed over a note demanding money. No gun was used, but police said the note implied the man had a weapon.

A small amount of money was taken, police said.

Additional information on how police narrowed their search to Brown was not available Saturday.

Brown has been charged with armed robbery, robbery, assault and theft.

He is being held at police headquarters pending his appearance before a district court commissioner, police said.
