Boonsboro High School senior Robin S. Smith, 17, received the Washington County Youth of the Month award from the Washington County Commissioners Tuesday.

Smith, the top-ranked student in her class with a 4.0 grade point average, is listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students and is a member of the National Honor Society.

Smith was praised for her leadership qualities and her ability to work well with others.

In addition to her academic accomplishments, Smith is active in a number of activities, including Students Against Drinking and Driving.

Smith plays in the band and jazz ensemble and volunteers as an assistant coach for the Sharpsburg Elementary School basketball team. She was vice president of her class in her junior year and represented Boonsboro High in the Washington County Association of Student Councils.

She also helps clean the school grounds after events and helps with the commemorative yearly illuminations at Antietam National Battlefield.

Smith told the commissioners that she would like to attend Notre Dame University in South Bend, Ind., and said she is considering majoring in architecture.

Smith will receive a $50 savings bond courtesy of the Sunrise Rotary Club of Hagerstown.
