FREDERICK, Md. - The Frederick County Sheriff's Office Central Booking Unit completed its first year of operation earlier this month. Officials hailed the central unit a success.
The booking unit now serves all of Frederick County's law enforcement agencies. The Maryland State Police and police departments in Brunswick and Thurmont began using the facility last October. In August, the Frederick Police Department began using it.
To date, 2,551 offenders have been processed, according to a release from the sheriff's office. According to the department:
11 offenders have been identified by computerized fingerprinting as using false names.
The average time elapsed before the police officer returns to the street is 26 minutes on single-charge arrests.
75 percent were positively identified in less than two hours.
All offenders are checked before release to make sure they are not wanted by other jurisdictions.
Authorities said they project more than 8,000 suspects will go through the facility next year.
