Woman robbed at knifepoint

A man robbed a woman at knifepoint early Saturday morning on Hopewell Road south of Hagerstown, the Washington County Sheriff's Department said.

The 31-year-old woman told police she was picked up in Hagerstown by a man who pulled a knife on her, demanded sex and stole her purse, police said.

She was able to get away from the man and went for help at the Phillips Driscopipe plant about 4:10 a.m., police said.


The woman described the vehicle as an older red station wagon, possibly with Pennsylvania tags. She described the man as heavyset with a black "flat top" haircut, police said.

Two hurt when vehicle, trailer overturn on I-70

An Ellicott City, Md., couple was injured Friday when their 1978 Chevrolet Suburban pulling a travel trailer overturned in the median of westbound Interstate 70.

The accident closed I-70 for about 20 minutes at the 35 mile marker near the Smithsburg/Boonsboro (Md. 66) exit, Maryland State Police said.

The travel trailer started to sway while the couple was going down South Mountain about 5:10 p.m., police said.

Erwin M. Scobee, 66, lost control of the Suburban and it overturned in the median along with the trailer, police said.

Scobee and his wife, Doris E. Scobee, 62, were taken by ambulance to Washington County Hospital.

Erwin Scobee was treated and released. Doris Scobee was in fair condition on Saturday, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The accident backed up traffic for awhile to the Frederick County, Md., line, police said.

Car vandalized

SMITHSBURG - A Hanover, Pa., man's car was scratched while it was parked at Washington Court apartments on Friday, the Washington County Sheriff's Department said.

Damage to the right rear fender of Robert Dale Smith's 1992 Mercury Cougar was estimated at $150. The vandalism occurred between 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Friday, police said.

Pa. runaways sought

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Two Franklin County, Pa., teenagers reportedly ran away from home Friday evening, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Police are looking for Michelle Lee Perrera, 14, of 5518 Main St., Marion, Pa., and Jacklyn Elaine Cochran, 13, of 2588 Henry Road, Chambersburg, Pa.

The girls ran away from Cochran's house about 6:30 p.m. Friday, police said.

Small outbuilding fire quickly put out

WILLIAMSPORT - Williamsport firefighters quickly put out a small fire in an outbuilding on Dam No. 4 Road Saturday afternoon, said Capt. Mike Gossard.

Fire started in the chimney of the outbuilding, possibly an old smoke house, at 1803 Dam No. 4 Road shortly before 4 p.m., Gossard said.

The property owner, whose name was not available, turned a garden house on the fire when it began to spread, Gossard said.

Firefighters were called and put out the blaze with no injuries within 10 minutes, Gossard said.

Two teens treated for alcohol overdose

FREDERICK, Md. - Two Walkersville, Md., teenagers were treated for alcohol overdose Friday night, the Frederick County Sheriff's Department said.

Deputy Jason Null found the two girls, ages 16 and 13, lying in the grass near Beckley's Motel on U.S. 15 about 10:30 p.m., police said.

Both were taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital, police said.

Police are investigating who gave them the alcohol and where they drank it, police said.
