CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - The CLEAN FOCUS Coalition will present red ribbons to schools throughout Jefferson County during National Red Ribbon Week, Oct. 23 to 31.
The annual observation is a celebration of healthy, drug-free lifestyles. During the week, people in the community are asked to wear and display the ribbons in support of drug-free youth and to show their willingness to take a stand against drugs.
According to statistics from the National Clearing House for Alcohol and Drug Information, an estimated 12.8 million Americans use drugs at least once a month, and more than one-third of all Americans ages 12 and older have tried an illicit drug. About 32 million Americans ages 12 and up engaged in binge drinking in the past month and about 11 million were heavy drinkers, according to the NCADI.
