He was a life member of VFW Post 6241, Mercersburg, Pa.; member of American Legion Joseph C. Herbert Post 222, Clear Spring; Moose Lodge 1790, Mercersburg; past president and secretary of Wilson Ruritan, Hagerstown; member of Medairy Lodge 140, Williamsport, since 1962; NRA; Washington County Street Rods; and Hagerstown Speedway.
He is survived by one daughter, Lucinda L. Beard of Boonsboro; one son, Allen Beard, at home; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Betty Dyarman, Sarah Ostera and Violet Clough; and four brothers, George Coy, Fred Coy, James Coy and Ernest Coy.
Memorial services will be Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Clear Spring. The Rev. Richard P. Yates will officiate.
There will be no viewing.

KEYSER, W.Va. - Edna H. Merrill, 88, of Route 2, Box 19-F, died Monday, Oct. 13, 1997, at Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit, Cumberland, Md.
Born March 13, 1909, in Boonsboro, she was the daughter of the late John C. and Maude A. Greenwalt Kline.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse E. Merrill.
She was a retired lathe operator, with 27 years of service, at Fairchild Aircraft Industries, Hagerstown; and was formerly employed with Dunkin Donuts, Hagerstown.
She was a member of Chapter 738, Women of the Moose, Martinsburg, W.Va.; Ladies Auxiliary of Keyser Volunteer Fire Department; Ladies Auxiliary of Post 200, American Legion, Satellite Beach, Fla.; Ladies Auxiliary of Post 4643, VFW, Satellite Beach; Ladies Auxiliary of Aerie 1758, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Waynesboro, Pa.; and the AARP.
She is survived by two daughters, Janet Churchey of Keyser, and Jerri Lee Stanley of Melbourne, Fla.; three sisters, Virginia McMasters, Magdalene Green, and Avis Jones, all of Hagerstown; one brother, Junior L. Kline of Hagerstown; three grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by sisters and brothers.
At her request, there will be no public viewing or funeral service.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Rotruck-Smith Funeral Home, Keyser.

Iva S. Martin
Iva S. Martin, 78, a resident of Mennonite Fellowship Home, 12349 Huyett Lane, Hagerstown, died Monday, Oct. 13, 1997, at the home.
Born May 11, 1919, near Reid, Md., she was the daughter of the late Ira D. and Mary A. Eshleman Martin.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Hagerstown Mennonite Fellowship Church.
She is survived by her husband, Abel E. Martin, also a resident of Mennonite Fellowship Home, whom she married Dec. 21, 1940; one daughter, Dorcas E. Horst of Hagerstown; three sons, Dr. Enos D. Martin of Elizabethtown, Pa., Truman E. Martin and Joseph E. Martin, both of Hagerstown; one sister, Miriam A. Oberholzer of Maugansville; one brother, J. Leon Martin of New Jersey; 30 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Martin; one brother, Eston D. Martin; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Hagerstown Mennonite Fellowship Church, 12403 Huyett Lane, Hagerstown. Ministers Maurice Martin, Landis Martin and Jacob Byers will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, today from 6 to 9 p.m., and at the church one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
The family requests the omission of flowers.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - Roscoe Tobias Cain, 69, of Berkeley Springs, died on Monday, Oct. 13, 1997, at the home of his companion, Anna R. Michael.
Born Jan. 5, 1928, in Berkeley Springs, he was the son of the late Harley Wesley and Edna P. Merchant Cain.
