CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Franklin County Commissioners, in coordination with the staff of the Planning Department, are promoting a recycling education campaign in honor of October being National Recycling Month.
Currently, residents recycle approximately 17 percent of the waste generated within the county. The state had originally projected a 25 percent reduction goal to be met by this year. The commissioners have placed emphasis on reaching the 25 percent reduction goal by the end of 1998, if not sooner.
To emphasize its commitment to recycling, the county will be displaying billboards throughout the county, placing ads in local newspapers reminding resident of the importance of recycling and leading instructional performances in area school districts. Planning Department staff will also be making presentations to local civic organizations and school children, in addition to participating in local events.
