Clear Spring woman, passengers OK after I-81 accident

October 12, 1997

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The northbound lanes of Interstate 81 were closed for about 20 minutes Saturday afternoon as crews cleared an accident scene in which a vehicle rolled over onto its side but left no one injured.

The vehicle, a 1989 Chevy Blazer, was rolled back on its wheels about three miles north of the Maryland-Pennsylvania state line and was able to be driven away, said Trooper Chester Dabrowski of the Pennsylvania State Police.

The Blazer was being driven by Ruth Hartpence, of Clear Spring, Md., at about 11:45 a.m. when a camper trailer it was pulling began to sway, Dabrowski said. That caused the vehicle to lose control and run off the side of the road, striking a berm before both the Blazer and trailer rested on their sides, he said.

Hartpence and her three passengers were all wearing seatbelts and were not hurt, Dabrowski said.
