SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - The Shepherd College Department of Social Work will host a workshop on ethics in social work from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23 at Hospice of the Panhandle, Martinsburg, W.Va.
The workshop is open to all social workers and will focus on the 1996 National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics. Topics of discussion will include the relevance of the new code to social work practice, social work education and solving ethical dilemmas. It fulfills the five hours required for social work licensure renewal.
Genie Johnson, a doctoral candidate at George Mason University, will discuss "Principles of Ethical Practice and Development of BioEthics." Johnson is also the vice president of the BioEthics Committee at Winchester and the Virginia Network.
Patty Gibbs, director of the bachelor of social work program at West Virginia University, will present the workshop discussions.
