Woman charged in 2-vehicle wreck

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Two people were treated and released from Martinsburg City Hospital after a two-vehicle accident early Tuesday morning at the intersection of W.Va. 45 and W.Va. 51.

West Virginia State Police said Sophonia D. James, 50, of Gerrardstown, was traveling west on W.Va. 45 at 5:56 a.m. when she made a left turn into the path of an eastbound car driven by Michael J. Everly, 33, of Gerrardstown.

Police said James was charged with failure to yield the right of way and driving on a suspended license.

Teen charged with gun possession

FREDERICK, Md. - A 19-year-old Frederick man was charged with possessing a handgun following an incident near the Taney Apartments complex at 10 p.m. Monday.


Michael Eugene Brown, of the 1000 block of West Key Parkway, was being held at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center on $2,500 bond.

Officers said they found Brown also had outstanding warrants for child support.

Officers responding to a call about a man with a gun started chasing a man after he ran from them. During the chase, officers said the man discarded a gun.

Officers said they chased him into a nearby back yard, where he was arrested.

Officers said as he fled, the man discarded a .22-caliber revolver in a yard in the apartment complex.

Pair charged with theft of pickup

SMITHSBURG - Washington County sheriff's deputies captured two men three hours after they allegedly stole a Toyota pickup truck Tuesday, authorities said.

Eugene David Griffith Jr., 20, of 21502 Leitersburg Smithsburg Road near Hagerstown, and Christopher George Prince, 18, of 115 Rachel's Court in Smithsburg, were in the vehicle when Deputy Brian Smith pulled it over on Warner Hollow Road, authorities said.

The two men have been charged with auto theft, felony theft and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. In addition, Griffith was charged with DWI and driving on a suspended license, deputies said.

The $9,000 1991 pickup truck was stolen from Gardenhour Roofing Co. on Mount Aetna Road between 2:30 and 8 a.m., deputies said.

At about 2 p.m., Smith responded to a report that the vehicle had been seen in the Smithsburg area and stopped it on Warner Hollow Road, deputies said.

Stolen credit cards used at area stores

Several credit cards stolen from the home of a Hagerstown area woman were used at area stores to the tune of $2,632, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

The cards were taken from Spiceberry Court, deputies said.

Mechanic's tools taken in Boonsboro

BOONSBORO - Several thousand dollars worth of mechanic's tools were stolen from a house on El Rancho Road Tuesday morning, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

The tools - mostly Snap On, Craftsman, Mac and S-K - were valued at about $6,000.

The thefts occurred in the 20700 block of El Rancho Road between midnight and 7 a.m., deputies said.

Truck stolen from park 'n' ride area

A truck was stolen early Tuesday morning at the park 'n' ride on Dual Highway at Interstate 70, Maryland State Police said.

The vehicle, a two-tone brown 1986 Chevrolet Silverado, has Maryland tags 040210, police said.

The owner returned from work at about 5:30 a.m. and found it missing, police said.

Pair of burglaries under investigation

NEW MARKET, Md. - The Frederick County Sheriff's Department is investigating two burglaries that occurred Saturday night, officials said Tuesday.

In the first, a burglar kicked in a side door and stole stereo equipment in the 6000 block of Boyers Mill Road, deputies said.

The door was also kicked in during second burglary, which occurred in the 8300 block of Ball Road. Guns were taken.

Deputies said they do not know if the burglaries are related.
