Pa. man facing assault charges

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - A 23-year-old Waynesboro man was returned to Waynesboro to face assault charges in an incident in which a man was beaten last December, according to court records.

District Justice Larry Pentz set an Oct. 6 preliminary hearing date for Reginald E. Adams, of 101 W. King St.

Adams had been in jail in the Baltimore area on unrelated charges when he was extradited to Pennsylvania, according to Waynesboro police.

He is accused in the beating of Michael Poper, of 655 Fogle Ave., on the night of Dec. 28. According to court records, Adams had visited a woman at the address earlier and was knocking on the door to get in. When Poper came to the door and told him to leave, Poper was beaten, court records said.


Adams was being held in Franklin County Prison on $15,000 bond.

Three broken windows discovered Saturday at the Honeywell Corp. property on Jamison Court were being investigated by the Washington County Sheriff's Department, a report said.

Damage was estimated at more than $600.

Officials are looking for some juveniles who were playing in the area and throwing rocks, the report said.

Thefts reported to sheriff's department

The Washington County Sheriff's Department reported the following incidents:

* A Cobra citizens band radio and antennae valued at $200 were stolen from a Ryder truck leased by Save-A-Lot at the Prosperity Lane store in Williamsport. The equipment was reported stolen on Saturday night.

* Jeffrey John Swope, 21, address unknown, was charged with possession of controlled dangerous substance paraphernalia and driving an unregistered vehicle on Saturday night.

Swope was charged after a traffic stop at the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Robinwood Drive around 10 p.m. He was taken to Maryland State Police in Frederick County, where he was wanted on a warrant.

* About $300 in coins was reported stolen Sunday night from 21617 Leiter Street in Leitersburg. The thief entered the home by removing a window.

* A Kenwood compact disc player and Kicker amp were reported stolen Sunday night from an Acura Integra at 31 Whittier Heights off Cornell Avenue.

* A 1995 Harley Davidson Sportster was stolen from the parking of Valley Mall on Sunday afternoon. The bike with West Virginia registration G20603 has a yellow frame and black seat. It was stolen between 12:30 p.m. and 6 p.m.

* A Hagerstown area woman was charged with second-degree assault following an incident involving her mother around 1:30 a.m. Monday, deputies said.

Wendy Riggins, 20, of 24 N. Colonial Drive, was relased on personal recognizance on Monday.

Police looking into theft, graffiti reports

Hagerstown City Police reported the following incidents:

* Tires and rims valued at $340 were reported stolen Saturday from a 1967 Camaro parked in a garage at the rear of 44 Center Alley.

* Graffiti at South Hagerstown High School and School Stadium was reported Saturday morning by the groundskeeper.

The word "Bozo" next to a caricature of a male was spray-painted in white on the stadium's concession stand. The word "Bozo" was sprayed in orange on the school's gymnasium wall.
