11 people injured in Pa. traffic accident

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Ten people, all from New York, were injured, several seriously enough to be admitted to the hospital, in a one-vehicle traffic accident around 7:30 a.m. Saturday on U.S. 30 West in St. Thomas Township, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

The vehicle, a 1996 Dodge van, was westbound when it traveled into the center turning lane, crossed into the eastbound lane and hit a tree.

The driver of the van, Ellis B. Gary of Laurelton, was the most seriously injured, police said. He was flown to York Hospital in York, Pa. where his condition was listed as satisfactory Saturday night.

Admitted to Chambersburg Hospital were Tyrell Edwards of Brooklyn, listed in stable condition in the hospital's pediatrics unit; and Shalonda Edwards of Brooklyn, and Adonis Gary Sr. of Queens, in satisfactory condition, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Treated and released were Sheila Gary, Tiera Gary, Tanya Gary, Claire Billy and Carlana Billy, all from Queens, and Shameka Edwards of Brooklyn.

No ages were available for any of the victims.

The accident occurred about 500 feet east of Hade Road, police said.
