Grants offered to W.Va. teachers

September 28, 1997

Mini-grants for West Virginia classroom teachers and Working on Wellness (WOW!) grants are now available from The Education Alliance, formerly the West Virginia Education Fund.

W.Va. public school teachers can apply for grants up to $500 to fund projects in their classrooms to enhance hands-on learning.

Thanks to a major grant from the Ashland Inc. Foundation and other sponsors such as the West Virginia Humanities Council, Huntington Foundation, West Virginia Dental Alliance, Shell Oil Co. Foundation, W.Va. Commission on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts, The Education Alliance is positioned to put $50,000 of private dollars into public schools.

The application deadline for mini-grants is Friday, Oct. 24.

School groups interested in promoting the health of West Virginia students can apply for WOW! grants up to $1,000 to fund schoolwide initiatives that focus on the promotion of positive health behaviors. Schools concerned with tobacco, alcohol and other drugs, injury prevention, relationships, nutrition and/or physical activity should work with their local school improvement councils to apply for a WOW! grant by the Friday, Oct. 31 deadline.
