Breast cancer awareness month

Y-ME of the Cumberland Valley's "Pin on the Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness," its eighth annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month, includes the following:

* Thursday, Oct. 9 - Tri-State area cancer survivors and their guests are invited to the Celebration of Life Survivors' Party at 6:30 p.m., at Venice Inn in Hagerstown. Lillie Shockney, R.N., author of "Breast Cancer Survivors' Club," will speak.

* Saturday, Oct. 11 - From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., beauty experts from Valley Mall will provide haircuts, styles or makeup for $5 and manicures for $10 in the mall's center court.


* Wednesday, Oct. 15 - Y-ME volunteers will distribute more than 10,000 pink lapel ribbons throughout the Tri-State. Downtown Hagerstown parking meters will be encircled by pink ribbons.

* Tuesday, Oct. 21 - Doctors' panel: Hormone Replacement Therapy

Four local physicians, cardiologist Scott M. Hamilton, gynecologist David H. Solberg, endocrinologist Stephen S. Lippman and rheumatologist Raymond L. Malamet, will speak about the pros and cons of hormone replacement therapy at 7 p.m. in conference center suite 122 A and B at Robinwood Medical Center.

* Saturday, Oct. 25 - Participants in the 1997 Y-ME Fitness Fest can choose between a 5K run, a 5-mile walk, aerobics or do all three. The event will be from 9 a.m. to noon at Hagerstown Junior College Athletic Recreation Community Center.
