Hunting and Fishing Day is observed nationwide the fourth Saturday of September each year by presidential proclamation to call attention to the contribution sportsmen make to conservation and the nation's economy.

In Washington County, this year's event will be marked by a two-day exposition Sept. 26-27 at Valley Mall.

Co-sponsored by the Washington County Federation of Sportsmen's Clubs and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, the event will feature a number of exhibits.

A 44-page program filled with information on sportsmen's activities and advertising materials sponsored by 60 area businesses and well-wishers will be distributed free of charge to visitors to the mall during the two-day show.

A dozen door prizes donated by area merchants and member clubs will be awarded.

The following people were elected officers of Citizens for the Protection of Washington County: President, Joseph D. Swope Jr.; vice president, Ross Demeritt; corresponding secretary, Pat Schooley; membership secretary, Eric Whitenton; and treasurer, Ralph Young.

Jacob Berkson and Dr. Paul Wolber were elected four-year board members; board members with unexpired terms are George Engstrom, David Schooley and George Maharay, past president.

The organization is a nonprofit, public service corporation formed in the early 1980s.
