Here are some of the calls we have received lately:

"Hi. I'd just like to voice my opinion of a few issues about the World Series. One, the kid that caught the ball last year in the playoffs didn't win the game for Yankees. If you know-it-alls out there can remember, the Yankees were down when that happened and they came back and won the game. Why couldn't the Orioles have come back and won the game? Second, it's already predetermined that the Baltimore Oriole's are going to win this years series. Why? Because Cal Ripken is going to retire this year and it wouldn't look right to retire from a losing team so the Baltimore Orioles are going to win so that it looks good when Cal retires this year. He's going to retire from a winning team. Third of all the Yankees, they should be the ones to win it. They are the ball team of America. They are everyone's ball team."

"Hi Mail Call. I got a little thing here going on. I'm having trouble with my well. I can't seem to get the water. I don't know if it's the pump or if there's no water down there and I've had two people come out and pull it and this and that but I was wondering if the county's going to subsidize my expenses like they do the water and sewer expenses? I wonder if Jim Wade or Ron Bowers or somebody could tell me which agency to contact to see if I can't get some help, even 2.7 percent on what my bills gonna be? I'm retired and on a fixed income in the county and I figure my taxes help the other people and now I need some help. Maybe they'll do some whining and I'm gonna do some whining."

"Congressman Bartlett voted against, I stress voted against, the pay raise. Unfortunately, the pay raise went through but he is donating his pay raise to charity."

"This is to the woman who keeps giving minors alcohol and thinking she's getting away with it. Your time will come and we'll all be watching you when you get arrested and it is coming. Just watch and see. You think you're Miss Thing and you're all that but we just think you're trash and as everyone knows, all trash ends up in the dumpster and on its way to the landfill. You're next so be prepared."

"I can't believe that in the paper the other day that a known prostitute went to the police station and reported a robbery from a man who hired her for illegal sexual activities. Was this known prostitute arrested for prostitution? She was illegally making money and taking it away from some family and she had the nerve to report that some john took it away from her. I personally think she deserved it. How did it feel to give money away instead of taking it away from someone for a change? You deserved what you got plus a lot more in my opinion. I think you should have gotten jail time. And police, what's your excuse for not arresting her? If she came in and said that she had just robbed someone, that she was dealing drugs or just robbed a bank or whatever, would you have let her walk back out or what? I think this is something that all us taxpayers would like to know."

"This is a resident of Smithsburg again and we don't think the mayor got the message that we went out and that we've waited long enough and we'd like to know why she can't get the hint that we want our cop back that we had in this town cause he did such a good job? We can't understand why she can't get that hint. So for the mayor and council, since you can't get the hint, I guess the best thing we know is that if we can't have our cop back, then the next step is for you people to just leave."

"I'm calling about the seat belt law. I have to agree with the law because it does save lives. I'm in a profession where I observe that these seat belts do work. I understand the people's complaints that it's their right to chose not to have the seat belt on but there comes a point where you need to make a decision. The decision I think of saving lives is more important than someone's right to choose on something like that. I don't know how else to explain it any more clearly but I think I'd rather lose my right to choose whether I can wear a seat belt or not than to lose my life."

"I'm calling in about these seat belts and having to put them on. I was thinking about all these senators, congressmen, governors and presidents. What are they going to do when they pass away? I hope they can find an undertaker that can make a crooked casket to put these crooks in cause that's what they're gonna need for being so crooked."
