The United Way's 1997 fund drive in Washington County has received pledges amounting to 8 percent of its $1.85 million goal, agency officials said Monday.
The United Way, with 25 member agencies, has received pledges of $237,756, according to reports released this week.
The City of Hagerstown purchasing department won the challenge to be the first department to complete its campaign.
Farmers and Merchants Bank and Trust employee campaign also is complete, with a 10 percent increase in giving and 27 new contributors.
The residential campaign is underway with letters going out to more than 6,000 households.
