William D. Gossard

William David Gossard, 74, of 251 West Side Ave., Hagerstown, died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997, at Washington County Hospital.

Born March 4, 1923, in Williamsport, he was the son of the late David A. and Lydia Grace Curfman Gossard.

He was employed as a vice president of Canteen Service Inc. for 32 years, retiring in 1986.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the European Theater with the 204th Anti-aircraft Battalion during World War II.

He was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church.

He was a member of American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42, member and past secretary of the Last Man's Club and Potomac Fish and Game Club.

He is survived by his wife, Gertrude B. McClain Gossard; two sons, Cody W.L. Gossard, and Walter D. Gossard, both of Hagerstown; four sisters, Edith I. Gaylord, Effie Mae Socks, and Mary Ruth Craig, all of Hagerstown, and Freda Rae Wempe of Williamsport; four brothers, Joseph T. Gossard of Reisterstown, Md., Albert J. Gossard of Williamsport, Charles L. Gossard of Hagerstown and Evers Gossard of Salisbury, Md.; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel Irene Bowman, Alice Jane Lumm and Nancy Grace Slifer; and one brother, Robert W. Gossard.

Services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Dennis L. Upton will officiate. Burial will be in Smithsburg Cemetery with military graveside honors conducted by American Legion Morris Frock Post 42.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Legion, Morris Frock Post 42, 405 Northern Ave., Hagerstown, Md. 21740; or the American Diabetes Association, 407 Central Ave., Reisterstown, Md. 21136.

Ruth A. Miller

BOONSBORO - Ruth A. Miller, 87, a resident of Fahrney-Keedy Home, died Sunday, Sept. 21, 1997, at the home.

Born June 30, 1910, in Mapleville, she was the daughter of the late Charles Franklin and Florence Elizabeth Bowman Dinkle.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Glenn Miller, in 1963.

She was employed for 13 years by Leiter Brothers Department Store in Hagerstown and retired after 18 years with Fairchild Aircraft.

She was a member of Christ Reformed United Church of Christ in Hagerstown.

She was a member of United Auto Workers.

She is survived by several cousins.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. The Rev. Don R. Stevenson will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Reba I. Piper

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Reba I. Piper, 86, a resident of Shook Home, and formerly of 328 S. Second St., died Monday, Sept. 22, 1997, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born March 11, 1911, in Cito, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Clarence W. and Lillian Bishop Cooper.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray M. Piper, in 1967.

She was a homemaker. She had been employed at the former Swift and Co., Chambersburg, for nine years and at the former Footer Cleaners, Chambersburg, for eight years. She also baby-sat in area homes for 20 years.

She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church, Chambersburg.

She is survived by two daughters, Joanna G. Crider of Chambersburg and Juanita May Roosa of Pems, Calif.; two sisters, Alberta J. Paxton and Marcella G. Gipe, both of Chambersburg; one brother, Vernon L. Cooper of Chambersburg; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and six stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three sisters and seven brothers.

Services will be Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Lester F. Stine will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Alyssa D. Hinton Sunde

FOX GLEN, W.Va. - Alyssa Desiree Hinton Sunde, 8 months old, of Fox Glen, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 1997, at Children's National Medical Center, Washington, D.C.

Born Jan. 23, 1997, in Ranson, W.Va., she was the daughter of Steven Carl Sunde and Dana Marie Hinton of Fox Glen.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by maternal grandparents, Larry and Sarah Hinton of Fox Glen; paternal grandparents, Carl and Susan Sunde of Fox Glen; paternal great-grandparents, Ingvold and Sylvia Sunde of Fox Glen; one aunt; three cousins; and great-aunts and great-uncles.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Eackles-Spencer Funeral Home, Harpers Ferry, W.Va. The Rev. Kathleen Russell will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Lutheran Cemetery, Bolivar, W.Va.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
