Poster will help promote preservation

September 19, 1997

Washington County Historical Society officials are hoping the 20 entrances pictured in a poster will open the door to donations to help fund the preservation of the Miller House and Beaver Creek School.

The money also would be used to fund educational programs.

Featured doors include the Hager House, the Miller House, several churches and doors in the heart of Hagerstown on Prospect, Washington, Franklin and Potomac streets, said board member Mary Kay Shaw.

Shaw and Secretary Pat Schooley held the ladder while photographer Ralph Chapin shot the doors, she said. Phoenix Color Corp. donated the printing of the poster.

Shaw said she got the fund-raising idea from several other communities who used posters, which can become collectibles.

So far about 250 of the 3,000 posters have been sold. They can be purchased for $10 each at the Miller House at 135 W. Washington St. or Maggie's Hang-Ups at 105 N. Potomac St. Postage costs extra.
