The 7-year-old girl who nearly drowned in the Hagerstown YMCA swimming pool Thursday afternoon remained in critical condition Friday night at a Baltimore hospital.
The girl, whose name was withheld by police, was transported to the Johns Hopkins Medical Center in critical condition from Washington County Hospital shortly after the 5 p.m. incident.
The girl was part of a Girls Inc. group that was swimming at the pool Thursday afternoon, Hagerstown City Police said.
A lifeguard discovered the girl under 4 to 8 feet of water and jumped in to save her, police said.
The girl was removed from the pool and two lifeguards began resuscitation efforts before she was transported from the scene.
