CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The Chambersburg man charged with homicide after allegedly shooting a woman in a parking lot early Sunday morning before turning the gun on himself remains in serious condition in the intensive care unit at York Hospital, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Kevin J. Barrett, 34, of 627 Siloam Road, allegedly shot Wendy Wise Schuchman, 32, of 136 Kennedy St., with a shotgun in the rear parking lot of Siggy's Food and Spirits, 454 Norland Ave., according to Chambersburg Police.

Police would not say how many times or where Schuchman was shot.

She was pronounced dead at Chambersburg Hospital at 2:40 a.m. and an autopsy was performed Monday morning.

Franklin County Chief Deputy Coroner Jeffrey Conner would only say that Schuchman died of injuries sustained in the shooting.

Schuchman had been employed as a secretary at N.E. Diffenderfer Plumbing and Heating Inc. in Chambersburg since April.

"She was just a nice young lady, very pleasant. I couldn't say anything nasty at all about her," said Roy Happel, who owned the business until his son took over eight years ago.

Schuchman graduated from Chambersburg High School and Franklin County Area Vocational Technical School.

Police said Barrett approached Schuchman in the parking lot as she exited the restaurant and shot her. Barrett then shot himself with the same weapon, police said.

Police said Barrett and Schuchman knew each other.
