Man killed on way to mailbox

WOODSBORO, Md. - A pedestrian who was going to the mailbox to get his morning newspaper Tuesday died after being hit by three vehicles, according to the Maryland State Police.

Pedestrian error and dense fog contributed to the accident, the police report said.

Nelson D. Summers, 86, of Creagerstown Road was killed while crossing the road to get to his mailbox, police said.

He was struck first by a Dodge dynasty driven by Anna Heflin, 43, of Woodsboro.

Then a red pickup truck going south on Md. 550 hit Summers.

A third vehicle, a GMC truck driven by Kenneth Oland Sr, 62, of Thurmont, Md., also struck Summers.

Police were called at 7:59 a.m. to Md. 550, south of Clyde Young Road.
