Marijuana seized in W.Va.

August 30, 1997

SHANGHAI, W.Va. - Berkeley County sheriff's deputies seized six marijuana plants after a deputy in a West Virginia Army National Guard helicopter spotted them growing in a field.

The plants ranged from two feet to four feet in height and after harvesting could have had a street value of several thousand dollars, said Lt. K.M. Lemaster.

The plants were growing in a field in the Shanghai area, Lemaster said.

A man was spotted harvesting the plants and questioned, Lemaster said.

The man was not charged at the time of the plant seizure, Lemaster said. The investigation is continuing.
